Autofest: Not just cars
NEW ULM — A new set of vendors were a welcome addition to the 17 annual Autofest Sunday.
In response to requests from festival-goers, the annual car show set up a building full of women-oriented vendors. Booths for companies like LuLaRoe and Pampered Chef offered something to do out of the sun.
“A lot of times the car guys will bring their wives with them, and the wives have asked for something for them to do, so we added women’s vendors,” Autofest President Jessi Havemeier said.
The Autofest also made a couple of other changes due to patrons’ requests. Along with expanded parking, soy bean oil was put down to reduce dust from the gravel road.
“It was also requested. Last year it got a little bit dusty when cars would drive in there, and then the show cars would get dust on them,” Havemeier said. “Ground Zero Services was the sponsor this year and put that down for us.”
With 375 cars, the popular event for showing off automobiles had a good turnout, despite some cars being drawn up to the State Fair grounds.
“We had a big competing show this year up in the Twin Cities,” Havemeier said. “It is Back to the ’50s Weekend up there, so that draws a lot of cars from all over. But we still had a great turnout. It might be just a tad less than last year, but still really good for having that competition.”
