DTV is coming!
June 10, 2009 - Kevin Sweeney
The nation’s television broadcasting and cable industry is converting completely to digital TV on Friday, and if you aren’t ready you can’t say you haven’t been warned.
You can’t watch a TV show these days without seeing a public service announcement about the upcoming DTV switchover every three minutes. They appear with the frequency that those annoying “HEAD-ON! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD!” commercials used to have.
Still, I’m, sure there will be some people out there on Friday saying, “Hey, what happened to my TV?” Or, if they are from New Ulm they might say, “What happened to my Tee-Wee?”
I’m not sure what the impact of unprepared viewers will be. Some people are expecting a cataclysm of Y2K proportions. We hope it is like the fears of the Y2K bug that was supposed to paralyze the world’s computers when January 1, 2000 rolled around. As you recall, nothing much happened. We were ready.
I suspect TV viewers are also ready, and ready for the DTV changeover announcements to end.
