I'm sure it wasn't what they meant, but yea, it should have said either "something to take very seriously" or, perhaps, "nothing to take lightly."

"The influenza season is nothing to take seriously, however." I thought you were trying to encourage people to get their flu shot? But, if the influenza season is nothing to take seriously...well, I don't see the need. I hope this is not what you meant.
