Wow..amazing that so many were not taught the settlers side..as typically, it was only the dominant culture's story that was taught. Quite amazing that all those disagree people has such a poor school system. Even my children were taught about it. However, the teacher was ignorant and taught them about what a"squaws" role was. Sad.

I was never taught about the events of 1862 at all in school. Learned about it from visiting Fort Ridgley when I was a kid. Didn't even know we had family involvement until I read "The Minnesota" by Evan Jones. We DID learn what "wonderful" leaders Ramsey, Sibley, et al, were...government cover up, apparently.
