State may be left holding stadium bag

February 11, 2013

It’s not news that the state’s revenue from electronic pulltabs, intended to finance the state’s portion of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium, is falling far short of projections....

Okay, you disagree that it would be like kissing your sister who has just announced that she is a lesbian. Right?

How about...it would be like kissing your sister who has just announced that she is a lesbian and her new girlfriend is your ex-wife.

Oh, I'm sorry, maybe you think it wouldn't be a thrill to go to Milwaukee, huh? Ever had frozen custard at Kopps? Huh? HUH!

The Milwaukee Vikings. Hubba, hubba!

This calls for some emergency Svensota high-powered thinking. Let's see...

Yes, yes, it's all very clear to me now.

1. Seize the Vikings as state property. Don't worry about the legality of it all, just trump something up, like not being friendly to the environment.

2. Even though we know they're worthless, then sell them to some dumbclucks and pay off the stadium. I'd suggest they be sold to some old beer barons in Milwaukee (speaking of the brain dead). That way we could comfortably make it to the games, but still have them safely out of the state where they can do us no more harm.

And, imagine the thrill of going to a Green Bay-Milwaukee game.

It would be like...kissing your sister who just announced she was a lesbian.

To those who know me. “I told you so”. Legislators were told that electronic pull-tab’s would never cover the state’s share of the Viking stadium. In an act of bipartisan ship the Republican and DFL said “the tax payer of Minnesota will gladly pay more taxes to keep the Vikings”. It’s time for the legislators to stand up and say just who should pay to keep the Vikings. Like maybe the Vikings fans. Maybe we should tell the Republican legislators for Brown County and New Ulm live by their word or resign. PS. NFL rules. If 50% of the owners vote to move the Vikings the Vikings move, contract or no contract, and Minnesota taxes payer are stuck with an empty stadium. Check the record you will see this has happen before. Rembember I told you so.

Pulltabs was a cowards way of paying for it in the first place. Most local bars that have pulltabs that are run by local organizations that use the proceeds for LOCAL needs. The bars are in no hurry to take that away. Electronic pulltabs were oversold to politicians eager to vote for the stadium without breaking their "no new taxes" pledge. There are only so many suckers out there, putting the pulltabs on a fancy electronic screen is not going create any more.

Well, they can always put slot machines in at Canterbury Park, unless the Indians want to open their checkbook.
