You really shouldn't have...

Weeds

February 20, 2013

First of all, I need to say thank you. You shouldn’t have. Really, you shouldn’t have. Last October, you taxpayers sent me a check for $5,010. This was on top of a very nice year in farming....

I think maybe you missed my point ( or I didn't define it clearly)Randy's situation is symptomatic of the government , we hand out money without any accountability. We give money to people who may not even be asking for it. Our nation is close to 17 trillion dollars in debt- I can't see passing my debt on to my children, I think that is immoral. So the only thing we can do is start analyzing where the money is going and how to pay down "our " debt. We are past the point where we can tax our way out on 1% of the tax payers, we all have to put some skin in the game or cut expenses. This is hardly isolated to farming . If you have a better solution I wouldn't mind hearing it. I try to offer solutions , you may disagree ,but offer an altrnative .Our kids are depending on it.

Great Article!!! The great thing about it is you can't tell what side he is on. Truly 100% unbiased and full of common ground and common sense.

Too bad for the comment that followed... you don't get it. Randy speaks of common sense and common ground, your comment passive aggressively takes his words in the opposite direction.

Randy wrote a really good and honest article, the farmers are not to blame it is similar to other government programs to help the needy. We all probaly know people that are receiving benefits when they are not really in need. That is the problem when government gets so big it can no longer police itself. There should be means testing before people receive any benefits ( some cases there are), but even when people do receive benefits legitemately they should be required to do community service (if physically capable), such as cleaning ditches ,parks or helping out at nursing homes for example. Anytime we hand out something for free ,somebody will be there to collect it whether or not they actually need it. Having them actually do work in exchange would help the country and also give some self worth to the people receiving the subsidy. Give a man a fish -feed him for a day ,teach him to fish -feed him for a lifetime. We are teaching people to be takers with nothing in exchange.
