MCW: agreed, it seems some govt reps don't think we can put this all together and see the double-dip. Maybe it's the same rationale for taxing gas at the wholesale level to help protect the end consumer from an increased gas tax....

Taxing items is one thing, but I don't agree with taxing services. Labor is already taxed in the form of income taxes. Taxing services means that labor will be taxed on the front and back ends of the invoice.

Another Point: the governor, who is against this legislation, is the one who proposed the service industry taxation a short 3 months ago! His proposal included a service industry tax across the board, not just a few as proposed. Why is he all of a sudden against them when he proposed similar action 3 months ago?? Anyone have his cell number?

If this goes through the tax on services door is going to be opened. In the years to come, service after service will be added to this trend. As well it should, why should one service be taxed, while others aren't. My point - 5 years from now, their "tax the rich" grandstanding that occurred this year with service taxes attached is going to turn into taxing services across the board and increased liabilities for everyone, rich, poor, and in the middle. These are the strategies they use.
