Why don't legislators understand a gas tax is a diminishing fund. As the govt. continually regulates the higher efficiency cars as well as technology advances electrical cars, this tax will continue to decrease. It's similar to the cigarette tax - I know its a benefit to saving money on health care, but now that smoking is declining, so is the tax income on them. I guess I don't understand why just raising these taxes aren't going to solve the budget problems long-term, just from year-year. At some point, legislators are going to have to look at a permanent solution to these income problems.

I realize that it wasn't repaid. It should have never been borrowed to begin with. The GOP wanted to design the rainy day fund to pay it back. That's not a good idea.

mnsotn, despite all the claims, the schools have not been paid in full. The "gimmicks" are still in place. Can't wait till next year when you get your property tax statement and see how much was really "reduced".

" This year, in contrast to the past decade, the DFL delivered on its promise to budget honestly." Coming from Thissen is unbeleivable.
