Early in June, I drove our Toyota Sienna 600 miles roundtrip on a baseball trip with some buddies. Last week, our family drove 700 miles to vacation on Madeline Island....

We have more oil than ever? Setting aside whether or not that's true, two things come to mind: (1) The price has been going up fairly rapidly in the last few years -- that's gotta say something about the availability (yes, I'm aware refineries take their cut of the profits, etc). (2) We're getting it from some of the hardest, least efficient places we know of now -- just a few years ago everyone said we'd never go after the tar sands in Canada because it wasn't worth it -- check out those Canada tar sands now. I don't know about you, but these two things tend to scare me a bit....

I agree 777777- nice job of writing. As is the author, I am in the "confused middle" as well. We are all guilty of CO2 emissions, but none of us are going to give up what we have. We have come a long way in regards to protecting our planet, but we must all continue to do more. Even as a little girl (many years ago), I was taught to conserve our natural resources, so that message has been around for a long time. We all do need to stay focused on that and do our part.
