The Minnesota River was the last deep spot at West Newton and that is one of the main reasons West Newton was so busy. The river brought supplies and settlers and that was the main business for the town.
Also, geology professor from Minnesota State Univeristy, Steven Losh, will have information and a display of items from the Minnesota River Valley. The Minnesota River Valley, where West Newton is located is rich in many different things. One is the river itself, another is the trees and animals, another is the things on the ground. Come and learn more about this area from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 12 at the Harkin Store. The program is included with price of admission. The gift shop will also be open.
