SLEEPY EYE - The 74th annual meeting of the Brown County Rural Electrical Association (BCREA) was held on Saturday, March 26, at the Eagles Orchid Inn in Sleepy Eye. More than 400 people attended, with 213 members registering.
Business Manager Lonnie Spaeth, presented the 2010 financial report and explained that the cooperative is financially sound.
Tom Hayes, president of the board of directors, reviewed activities used to involve and communicate with members this past year. He also shared successes of the working relationship between Brown County REA and BENCO of Mankato, and looked ahead to the 75th Anniversary that BCREA will observe next year.
General Manager Wade Hensel spoke about the co-op's strategic initiatives and how they are developed to help keep up with changes in the industry and to ways to best serve members. Hensel reported that the Board reaffirmed the co-op's mission to provide the best possible service at the lowest possible cost consistent with sound business management.
Election of directors for districts 2, 3, and 8 were held. Incumbents Brad Sprenger, District 2; Allen Hanson, District 3; and Reuben Kokesch, District 8; were re-elected to their positions.
At the organizational meeting which followed, Tom Hayes was elected president of the board, Jim Mickelson was elected vice president, Jim Hanson was selected as secretary and Reuben Kokesch was chosen as the GRE representative.
