WINTHROP - Sleepy Eye St. Mary's defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 2-0 Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference prep softball game.

Kahley Pelzel earned the win for St. Mary's going eight innings, allowing no runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Erin McDermont took the loss going eight innings, allowing one earned run on 12 hits with 17 strikeouts.

Mandee Jo Heiderscheidt was 3-for-4 for the Knights, Megan Gilliland was 2-for-4 with a double and Jenna Hose was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.

McDermont was 1-for-3 at the plate for the Thunderbirds and Paige Sikkila and Karissa Schwecke were each 1-for-4 with singles.

GFW plays Monday at New Ulm Cathedral and St. Mary's hosts Sleepy Eye Tuesday.

Sleepy Eye 14,

CMC 1, 5 innings

SLEEPY EYE - Sleepy Eye defeated Comfrey/Cedar Mountain 14-1 Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference prep softball game.

Sydney Remus earned the win for Sleepy Eye pitching all five innings, allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts.

Amanda Hillesheim took the loss for C/MC pitching five innings, allowing 14 runs on 15 hits with one strikeout.

Rachel Schroeder was 4-for-4 on the day for the Indians, adding three runs and three RBIs. Remus was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Jordan Domeier was 2-for-4 and Jamie Fischer was 2-for-3.

Hillesheim was 1-for-2 with a run scored for the Rockets.

Sleepy Eye (4-2) plays a doubleheader today against New Ulm Cathedral in Essig and CMC plays Monday at Minnesota Valley Lutheran.

Cathedral 7, Wabasso 2

WABASSO - New Ulm Cathedral stayed perfect on the season as the Greyhounds beat Wabasso in Tomahawk Conference play Thursday.

Ali Brey earned the win for the Greyhounds. She allowed two hits, three walks and struck out seven.

Morgan Zollner was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Paige Pautzke was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Lisa Helget had a double.

Kimberly Frank took the loss with eight hits, seven walks and two strikeouts.

She also had a two-run home run.

Cathedral (6-0) plays Sleepy?Eye in a doubleheader today at 4 p.m. in Essig.
