Man, 80, trapped in SE Minnesota grain bin

June 12, 2014
Associated Press

LEWISTON, Minn. (AP) — Crews in southeastern Minnesota are trying to rescue an 80-year-old man trapped in a corn bin.

Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand says rescuers were called to a farm near Lewiston after 11 a.m. Thursday.

Brand tells KAGE-AM a hole was cut in the side of the bin so loose corn could be taken out with an auger. The man is being held by a rope so he won't sink into the corn.

The sheriff says the man has remained conscious.

The rescue was still underway as of 2 p.m.

A Mayo One helicopter is at the scene.
