THUMBS UP: With Friday night's New Ulm High School commencement ceremony, the 2012 high school graduation season comes to a close.
It is a great time for celebration, graduation parties, and planning for summer jobs and activities. All too soon, it will be August and college and post-secondary school will be looming for some.
We want to offer all of the graduates in The Journal area our congratulations. You've done well, and a new world is waiting for you.
We also want you to party safely and responsibly as you head into the summer.
THUMBS UP: We also want to wish all of our retiring teachers and educators a happy retirement, with thanks for the good work you have been doing for so many years.
The Journal has been profiling our education retirees the past few weeks, and as always, it is mind-boggling to think of all the young people they have worked with and influenced over their careers. We have a good community because they helped make it so.
THUMBS DOWN: With Memorial Day approaching, people are very aware of the care and maintenance of their loved one's graves. One thing they shouldn't have to worry about is thievery.
That's not the case in Crystal, wheremore than 100 bronze vases have been stolen from Glen Haven Memorial Garden over the past two weeks. Police suspect the 8-pound vases are being stolen and sold for scrap.
There ought to be a special place in you-know-where for people who steal from the dead. We hope the crooks are quickly apprehended and prosecuted.
