Let's have a Blast
THUMBS UP: Bavarian Blast is on this weekend, and it's no secret organizers stuck their necks out to put on the festival this year after disappointing attendance and revenues last year.
We hope their confidence in the New Ulm community will not be disappointed, and that people in town will head to the Brown County Fairgrounds for some good times this Saturday and Sunday.
The organizers have been working hard to provide a variety of entertainment, and their efforts deserve support.
THUMBS UP: The International Polka Association in Cleveland, Ohio, plans to induct the late Paul Wendinger into its Hall of Fame in August. It is a fitting honor for Paul, who with his brother Peter carried on the grand tradition of the New Ulm Old?Time music.
Paul will be just the fourth New Ulm inductee into the Polka Hall of Fame, joining Fezz Fritsche, Harold Loeffelmacher and the legendary Whoopee John Wilfahrt.
Like his predecessors in the hall, Paul and his brother Peter traveled extensively throughout the Midwest. Their band, the Wendinger Brothers Band, continues to play on, with Paul's son Jon joining in the music and the management.
This is an honor that is well deserved.
KNUJ up for award
THUMBS UP: Congratulations to the folks over at KNUJ Radio. The station learned this week that it is one of the finalists for the National Association of Broadcasters' Marconi Award for Small Market Station of the Year.
Jim Bartels and his crew work hard and provide a great service to their listeners in the area. We wish them well when the winners are named in September.
