Marie Juanita Kaping, age 85, of Hutchinson, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at the Ecumen Oaks Assisted Living in Hutchinson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson with Father Jerry Meidl officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson, with a 5 p.m. Rosary and a 6 p.m. Parish Prayer Service.

Marie Juanita Kaping was born on Feb. 9, 1927, in New Ulm. She was the daughter of Henry and Ann (Dittrich) Eckstein. Marie was baptized as an infant on Feb. 13, 1927, and later confirmed in her faith as a youth at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. She received her education at country school.
On March 5, 1946, Marie was united in marriage to Elmer Kaping, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. This marriage was blessed with 10 children. Marie and Elmer resided in Hutchinson. They shared 56 years of marriage until Elmer passed away on Sept. 4, 2002.
Marie was a loving, wife, mother and homemaker. Marie was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson.
Marie had many interests and hobbies. One of her interests was traveling. Marie was able to travel to Germany with her brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Nikki Eckstein, to see the home of her grandmother. She was also able to travel to Hawaii to see her granddaughter get married. Marie traveled to many states to visit her children and grandchildren. Marie loved riding her bike as recently as this last spring and enjoyed walking around town with her good friend, Teresa. She especially enjoyed volunteering at her church, the nursing home, delivering meals on wheels and popping popcorn at the pool. Some of her other interests included gardening, playing cards, and fishing. Family gatherings and attending the many children's and grandchildren's activities were most important in her life. Marie set a precedent for coupon clipping and was one of the first in town to "Go Green" with a compost site in her garden. She will truly be missed at Cashwise having coffee with her friends.
Marie is survived by her children, Diane Dallmann and her husband, Gary of New Ulm, Gary Kaping of Griffin, GA, Norma Kaping of Surprise, AZ, Jon Kaping of Santa Maria, CA, Brian Kaping and his wife, Lori of Hutchinson, Mark Kaping of Surprise, AZ, Debra Haapala and her husband, Scott of Hutchinson, Jeff Kaping and his wife, Angela of Alliance, NE, Mary Jo Loncorich and her friend, Tim Read of Hutchinson; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Eckstein of New Ulm, Patrick Eckstein and his wife, Nicole of New Ulm; sisters, LaDonna Schugel and her husband, Laverne of St. Paul, Jo Ann Foley and her husband, Bill of Bemidji; sisters-in-law, Harriet Eckstein of New Ulm, Bernice Eckstein of Sleepy Eye, Helen Eckstein of New Ulm, Mary Jane Eckstein of New Ulm, Leona (Kaping) Hesse of New Ulm, Esther (Kaping) Radke of New Ulm, Marilyn Kaping of New Ulm, Delores Kaping of St. Paul; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
