Wabasso defeats Mustangs

Wabasso 3, BLHS 1

WABASSO - The Wabasso volleyball team continued its hot start to the season with a 25-19, 25-13, 21-25, 28-26 Tomahawk Conference victory over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Tuesday.

Kimberly Frank had a big night for Wabasso with three aces, 27 assists and eight kills. Ellen Franta led the way in digs for Wabasso with 12, while Chelsey Guetter had nine kills.

For BLHS, Maddie Ludowese had 12 kills and Mikayla Paulsen had 11 kills. Ashley Tintes had 13 set assists.

Wabasso improves to 5-1 on the year and will host Springfield on Thursday. BLHS will travel to Sleepy Eye St. Mary's on Thursday.

Springfield 3, CMC 0

SPRINGFIELD- Springfield swept Cedar Mountain/Comfrey 25-14, 25-17, 25-13 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.

Morgan Hansen led the Tigers in kills with 17, while Tiffany Schwanke added nine. Schwanke and Kasey Kretsch led the Tigers with 15 digs apiece.

The Cougars were led in kills by Courtney Nelson with four, while Emily and Andrea Ochs led the team with four digs.

Springfield plays again on Thursday at Wabasso, while CMC travels to play at Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

GFW 3, St. Mary's 1

SLEEPY EYE - Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary's 25-10, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball matchup on Tuesday.

Erin McDurmont led all attackers with 15 kills on the night, while Morgan Wenninger added 13 kills for the Thunderbirds. Wenninger and Edie Beranek each had 15 digs to lead the team.

St. Mary's was led in kills by Becca Schmitz and Deonna Brinkman, who had 10 and nine, respectively. Maddy Helget led the Knights with 16 digs and Lexie Weiss added 15 digs.

GFW (9-2, 3-0) plays on Thursday at New Ulm Cathedral, while St. Mary's (6-4-1, 2-1) hosts BLHS on Thursday.

MVL 3, Sleepy Eye 2

SLEEPY EYE - After losing the first two sets, the Minnesota Valley Lutheran volleyball team came back to defeat Sleepy Eye by a score of 26-28, 25-27, 25-17, 25-20, 15-7.

Martha Johnston had 47 set assists and 16 digs for MVL. Carlie Maasz delivered 18 kills and 28 digs. Sarah Burk also had a big game with 17 kills, 14 digs and seven blocks. Allison Collum and Monica Wellner also combined for 30 digs.

MVL improves to 6-9-1 with the win and will host CMC next Tuesday. Sleepy Eye falls to 2-6 with the loss and will host CMC on Thursday.

Nicollet 3, Maple River 1

MAPLETON - Nicollet defeated Maple River 25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20 in a Valley Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.

Katelyn Skrien and Carissa Woller each had eight kills to lead the Raiders. Nicollet was led in digs by Courtney Struss with 28 and Skrien added 10 digs. Woller also led the team in blocks with five.

Nicollet plays again Tuesday when it travels to play at Alden-Conger.
