SLEEPY EYE - United South Central defeated River Valley for the Gopher-Valley Conference girls tennis title on Tuesday.
USC took both top spots in singles and doubles in straight set wins while River Valley returned the favor at both singles and doubles in the No. 2 spots to tie the score at 2-2. That left No. 3 and No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles on court to decide the title. The Rebels took all three of those matches for the 5-2 win.
Picking up wins for River Valley were Becky Roiger at No. 2 singles and the No. 2 doubles duo of Erika Ries and Lauren Laffen. Both positions turned very tight first sets into a dominating second set win to pick up the points.
River Valley is now 6-8 overall and will travel to Marshall on Thursday before finishing the week at Madison on Saturday, where the Wildcats will take on Montevideo and Lac qui Parle Valley-Dawson-Boyd.
