NEW ULM - Hannah Mattek of the Martin Luther College women's soccer team scored in the final minute to beat Crown 2-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action at Knight Field Saturday.
The Knights dominated play for much of the game, outshooting the Storm 48-13, but trailed early in the second half 1-0.
Carina Rahn tied the game in the 62nd minute with her first career goal off a pass from Bethany Schultz, and then Mattek came through with the winner unassisted with just 54 seconds to play in the game.
Katelyn Malley had seven saves for MLC.
With the win, MLC improved to 3-5 on the season and 2-2 in the UMAC.
MLC will return to action at 2 p.m. Friday when it travels to Northland.
Men lose to Crown
NEW ULM - The MLC men's soccer team lost to Crown Saturday by the score of 3-1 at Knight Field.
The Knights fell behind on a Storm goal in the 34th minute, but Ryan Lemke tied the game in the final minutes before the half on a pass from Kaleb Buch, sending the game into halftime even at 1-1.
Crown was able to take advantage of opportunities in the second half, as Truman Shetler found space to score twice in the first 22 minutes of the second half to give the Storm the two-goal lead they held the rest of the way.
Eric Hahn stopped 12 of the 15 shots he faced for MLC.
The Knights dropped to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in UMAC play with the loss.
MLC returns to action at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Northland.
