MANKATO - The Martin Luther College volleyball team beat rival Bethany Lutheran College 3-0 Wednesday by the scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-16.
The Knights controlled much of the match, hitting .344 compared to BLC's .062 attack percentage. MLC hit at least .300 in each set and finished the match with only eight attack errors.
Rebecca Engelbrecht led MLC with 13 kills, hitting .480 for the match. Leah Nass and Rachel Hein had eight and seven kills, respectively, and both hit .462 in the match.
Setting up the Knights' attack was Miranda Maasz, who finished with 36 assists on MLC's 40 kills. Maasz also added two blocks.
Hein led the MLC effort at the net defensively, finishing with eight blocks. Her five assisted blocks in the match moved her into second place in the school's record books in the category with 274 for her career, 15 behind all-time leader Emily Boldt's record of 289.
With the win, MLC improved to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play, while BLC dropped to 3-16 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
MLC will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday when it hosts St. Scholastica.
