MANKATO - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team was stung by a goal in the 88th minute in a 2-1 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference loss at Bethany Lutheran Tuesday night.
Tyler Prekop gave MLC the lead late in the first half, scoring in the 39th minute off a pass from Stephen Roekle to give the Knights a 1-0 halftime lead. The goal was Prekop's first of the season.
Bethany tied the game in the 71st minute, as Joseph Perez shot one past MLC goalkeeper Eric Hahn to tie the game 1-1.
The Vikings scored the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute, when Jason Buechler finished a pass from Benjamin Moldstad to give BLC the one-goal win.
The Knights were credited with 18 shots in the game compared to 15 for the Vikings, with Kaleb Buch and Ryan Lemke combining for nine of those. Hahn finished with five saves on the seven shots he faced.
MLC dropped to 2-12 overall and 1-9 in the UMAC with the loss. BLC improved to 7-8-1 on the season and 6-3-1 in conference play with the win.
MLC returns to action at 1 p.m. Friday when it travels to North Central.
