DULUTH - The Martin Luther College volleyball team lost its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament semifinal match at St. Scholastica Wednesday night by the scores of 22-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22, 15-9.
MLC started the match well, winning the first set to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The match went back and forth from there, with St. Scholastica taking the second and fourth sets, while MLC won the third to force a fifth and deciding set.
The Saints jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the final set, but the Knights made a run to tie the score at 6-6. St. Scholastica took control from there, however, scoring nine of the final 12 points (including the final three) to beat MLC 15-9 and take the match.
The Saints hit .235 for the match, led by 30 kills from Anna Zyvoloski. MLC hit .206, with Rachel Hein leading the way with 15 kills. Rebecca Engelbrecht and Leah Nass added 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
Miranda Maasz finished with a match-high 48 assists and also added five kills and 10 digs. Alex Anthon led the team with 14 digs, with Engelbrecht adding 14. Hein finished with six blocks.
With the loss, MLC finished the season with a record of 16-12, while St. Scholastica improved to 17-11.
