To the editor:
Firstly, I want to congratulate the winners for District 88 School board. Their dedication to the students in District 88 should prove the important ingredient in moving the community and district forward on very important issues. This election, voters were honored by having a choice with some outstanding candidates. I was proud to be among them.
Secondly, elections should be about ideas. It was an opportunity for me to share some of my ideas for improving education in District 88. Most would agree that we can do better, but we need to acknowledge the importance of education and the sacrifices and talents of our current teachers and staff. I was happy to share my ideas and passion for education.
Thirdly, we are blessed in this country to have the liberty as a community to choose our own path with regards to education. There is plenty of rhetoric about how American students can't compete with students in other countries. We need to acknowledge that those students live under very different circumstances. I was working toward greater support for the students in District 88, and will continue to do so.
Finally, I want to thank those who voted and supported me. It was very humbling to hear from so many on what mattered to them most about education and how it relates to District 88. Most people would agree that to be the best takes real effort. There is a constant need for reflection, evaluation, and discussion when important decisions need to be made. I feel that there isn't anything more important to the community than education, i.e. the future. I still do and always will.
