NEW ULM - American Artstone Company (Artstone), a cast stone and architectural precast manufacturer, was presented with two prestigious national awards by the Cast Stone Institute (CSI) at the 2012 Annual Convention in Fort Worth, Texas, on Oct. 13.
Artstone received the Architects Choice Award and one of two Manufacturing Excellence Awards presented by the association, for work on the Sanford Heart Hospital Lobby in Sioux Falls, S.D. This is only the second year the Architects Choice Award has been given out and both awards have gone to American Artstone Company.
The work on the Sanford Heart Hospital Lobby was completed under direction of the Architectural firm, AECOM Architecture of Minneapolis, and masonry contractor, Walter Ree Masonry Inc. out of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Greg Saterdalen, center, accepts the Manufacturing Excellence award from Troy McCune, left, Cast Stone Institute Plant Certification and Quality chair and Kent Grubaugh, right, Cast Stone Institute president.
Artstone's scope of work for the hospital lobby included cast stone arches, base panels and decorative panels. The arch pieces were particularly difficult because they were comprised of compound radius in that they were designed to be curved to match the curve in the adjacent wall making construction of the molds quite challenging. Artstone's management team credits the employees of American Artstone Company for their skilled and creative workmanship.
Greg Saterdalen, Artstone's business development manager. accepted the awards on Artstone's behalf.
Saterdalen said, "After watching the CSI Awards presentation and seeing all the beautiful projects which were nominated by the many CSI-certified cast stone producers from around the country, I was honored and pleased when they announced that American Artstone Company had won these awards."
The Cast Stone Institute defines cast stone as "a highly refined masonry product that provides ornamental or functional features to buildings and other structures."
