The Holiday season started Friday in downtown New Ulm with the 24th Annual Parade of Lights.
With temperatures in the mid teens and wind chills in the single digits, hundreds of spectators bundled themselves in down-filled coats, stocking caps and mittens and tucked warm scarves around their necks to watch the spectacle of light-bedecked vans, trucks, floats and even an ambulance travel slowly down Minnesota Street.
Crowns of royalty twinkled in the dark skies as queens and princesses waved to the crowd. Holiday music created a festive mood. Hermann and Thusnelda joined the merriment.
The Grinch rides on the Turner Hall float.
The arrival of Santa Claus concluded the parade as anxious youngsters fulfilled their desire to see the jolly, old fellow with whom they can share their Christmas wish lists.
