Knights slay Lions, Huskies topple Indians at St. Mary’s Invite

SLEEPY EYE - Senior Maddy Helget led Sleepy Eye St. Mary's to victory against Christ's Household of Faith Saturday on the final day of the St. Mary's Fall Invitational girls' basketball tournament.

Helget netted 19 points and added five steals. Teammate Devyn Meyer added 14 points and Jessica Schmitz added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Alexandra Otten led CHF with 11 points. Zoe Piepkorn and Kathleen Piepkorn added 10 points apiece for the Lions.

St. Mary's improved its season record to 1-1 with the victory. The Knights will play on the road against Martin Luther at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

JCC 66, Sleepy Eye 45

SLEEPY?EYE - Kaylee Burmeister scored a game-high 17 points to lead Jackson County Central to victory against Sleepy Eye on Saturday at the St. Mary's Fall Invitational.

Lydia Brandt chipped in with 14 points for the Huskies.

Claire Krumbach hauled in a massive 20 rebounds for Sleepy Eye and also scored nine points. Justine Gonzalez had 12 points and four assists for the Indians and Josie Schieffert contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Sleepy Eye (0-2) will return to action when it hosts Springfield on Dec. 4.
