Bridging Brown County awarded Wally Schmiesing the 2012 Bridge Builder Award on Nov. 15th at its annual banquet at the Comfrey Community Center.
The Bridge Builder Award is given to a person that has exemplified volunteering and dedication to their church, community and the county. This award was started in 2007.

-- Hosting 13 International students through the University of Minnesota's Minnesota Agricultural Student Trainee Program.
-- Being active in the Brown County Farm Bureau.
-- Serving Lake Hanska Lutheran Church in many capacities, and provided leadership in the formation of Prairieland Lutheran Parish.
-- Serving on the Lake Hanska Preservation and Improvement Council, which eventually accomplished the dredging of Lake Hanska.
-- Participating in the Blandin Leadership Program, and serving on the Bridging Brown County Board.
-- Serving on the Region 9 Council, and being trained in Senior Insurance Counseling, working with seniors citizens on their insurance options.
-- Serving on the Brown County REA Board for 27 years, several as President.
-- Serving on the governing boards of Madelia Community Hospital and Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
-- Serving on the Committee planning Brown County's 150th. Anniversary
-- Being a delegate to National AMPI Conventions in San Antonio, Texas.
