Viterbo 60, MLC women 41
LA CROSSE, Wis. - A slow start to the second half led to a 60-41 loss at Viterbo for the Martin Luther College women's basketball team Wednesday.
The Knights trailed for much of the first half, but made a run before the half to cut the deficit to one at 25-24 going into the break.
The V-Hawks took control early in the second half, outscoring MLC 18-4 in the first 11:48 of the half as they held MLC to two made field goals during that stretch before a Hannah Hackbarth 3-pointer ended the run with just over eight minutes left in the game.
The Viterbo defense continued to smother the MLC offense, holding the Knights to six field goals in the second half as the V-Hawks closed out the win.
Alex Anthon finished with a team-high nine points and also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Knights. Rebecca Engelbrecht led the team with a career-best 11 rebounds.
MLC (0-4) will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Dakota State.
Viterbo 74, MLC men 57
LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team fell behind early and was unable to come back in a 74-57 loss at Viterbo Wednesday.
The Knights took a 12-11 lead five minutes into the game, but the V-Hawks took control from there on the way to a 43-28 halftime lead.
MLC cut the deficit to 12 at 43-31 early in the second half on a 3-pointer by Luke Rothe, but Viterbo responded with a 27-9 run to push its lead to 30 on the way to closing out the Knights down the stretch.
Rothe and Galen Holzhueter led MLC with 12 points and five rebounds apiece. Ben Edmundson had eight points off the bench for the Knights.
MLC (0-3) will return to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Dakota State.
