Two Courtland youth received honors at the recent Nicollet County 4-H Awards Banquet.
Megan Struss, daughter of Paul and Mary Struss of Courtland, received the 2012 Outstanding Youth Leader Award.
She has mentored other 4-Hers in the dairy, craft, and scrapbooking project areas as well as demonstrations in the club and county levels. She has been a mentor to area 4-H club secretaries. She helped plan Project Day in the Courtland area and North Mankato area. She organized a holiday craft sale in the Courtland Community Center.
She was received the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award in Youth Leadership. She has participated in 4-H for 11 years. As a junior at New Ulm High School, she earned five outstanding achievement awards, including 2008 Child Development, 2009 Craft & Fine Arts, 2010 Dairy, 2011 Home Environment and 2012 Youth Leadership.
Matt Struss, 15, son of Paul and Mary Struss of Courtland, received the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award in Self- Determined.
He has participated in this project area since he was a third-grader. His recent efforts focused on community service. He has also been involved in many livestock and nonlivestock projects..
As a sophomore at New Ulm High School he has earned outstanding achievement awards, including 2009 Vet Science, 2011 dairy and 2012 Self- Determined.
