Victim of house fire identified

RURAL NEW ULM - The Brown County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim of an early morning house fire on Shag Road in New Ulm.

Dorothy Lee Nichols, 79, was found in the residence at 11050 Shag Road. The fire started in a garage converted to a residence occupied by Nichols. The fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office. An autopsy is also pending.

The New Ulm Fire Department and Brown County Sheriff's Office were called to the fire that started about 5 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. The New Ulm Police Department also responded to the scene.

Firefighter responded to a fire at 11050 Shag Road in rural New Ulm on Saturday in the early morning.

The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist a displaced relative/next door neighbor, Michael Nichols, who is unable to remain in his home due to the Fire Department still being on the scene and the loss of power to his home. Brown County REA was also at the scene.
