NEW ULM The New Ulm Economic Development Authority approved the annual revisions to the Brown County Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher and Public House income limits and the revised Public Housing Utility Allowance schedules during a meeting Tuesday at City Hall.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development updates the income limits of those eligible for HUD's assisted housing program each year. The program has three target areas: extremely low-income families with income not exceeding 30 percent of median family income, very low-income families not exceeding 50 percent of median family income and 80 percent low, which targets families at 80 percent of the median family income. This year, the median family income, which targets a household of four, for Brown County dropped from $64,200 to $61,900.
The resulting changes to the income limits are: For one person housing, extremely low dropped from $13,500 to $13,000, very low dropped from $22,500 to $21,700 and 80 percent low dropped from $35,950 to $34,650.
For two persons housing, extremely low dropped from $15,400 to $14,850, very low dropped from $25,700 to $24,800 and 80 percent low dropped from $41,100 to $39,600.
For three person housing, extremely low dropped from $17,350 to $16,700, very low dropped from $28,900 to $27,900 and 80 percent low dropped from $46,250 to $44,550.
For four person housing, extremely low dropped from $19,250 to $18,550, very low dropped from $32,100 to $30,950 and 80 percent low dropped from $51,350 to $49,500.
For the utility allowance, the EDA approved during the public hearing to raise one bedrooms housing at Broadway House by $1 to $30 while reducing two bedroom housing in the Family Units by $8 to $142, three bedroom housing by $7 to $148 and four bedroom housing by $2 to $200. The calculation is based on the prior year's utility usage in the units.
Finally, the EDA awarded the HVAC Renovation Project for 615 North German Street to Gag Sheet Metal, Inc. for $3,800.
