PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: St. James edges?New Ulm; Wabasso, Nicollet pick up victories

St. James 57, New Ulm 55

ST. JAMES - Hunter Ahlness scored 19 points, but that was not enough for the Eagles to get their first win of the season as they fell to St. James on Thursday night in South Central Conference girls basketball action.

Briana Sieve and Alley Grejtak both contributed 11 points for New Ulm. St. James was led by Devon Flohrs who had 15 points in the game. Emily Hurley added 13 points for the Saints.

New Ulm's next game is Dec. 27 at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.

Wabasso 70, GFW 38

WABASSO - Wabasso stayed unbeaten in Tomahawk conference play Thursday night by beating Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.

Wabasso's Kimberly Frank led the team with 16 points, while Chelsey Guetter recorded a double-double, going for 14 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

Halley Busse had a team-high 26 points for the Thunderbirds.

Wabasso (3-1, 2-0) will travel to Sleepy Eye St. Mary's on Tuesday night.

Nicollet 54, ML 35

NICOLLET - The Nicollet Raiders improved to 3-2 in Valley Conference play as they beat Martin Luther in Thursday night girls basketball action.

The Raiders were led by Emily Skrien, who had a team leading 19 points on the night. Carissa Woller also chipped in 11 points for Nicollet.

Martin Luther was led by Amber Schulz's nine points.

Nicollet (4-3) will travel to Truman on Tuesday.
