PREP BOYS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Cougars top Tigers in nail-biter

CMC 61, Springfield 60

SPRINGFIELD - Sam Pendleton scored 20 points to lead Cedar Mountain/Comfrey past Springfield in Tomahawk Conference boys basketball action Friday night.

Pendleton scored 11 of his 20 points in the second half. Zack Kerkhoff scored 13 points for the Cougars.

Cole Milbrath had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers and Isaac Kirschstein added 17 points.

Springfield (3-2, 1-2) hosts Fulda Monday. CMC (3-1, 3-0) hosts a Holiday Tournament Thursday, Dec. 27.

GFW 59, Wabasso 54

WINTHROP - Seth Schuette scored two 3-pointers the final five minutes of the game to secure a win for Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop over Wabasso Friday night in Tomahawk Conference boys basketball action.

Schuette scored 16 points and Cade Leitheiser added 14 points and 12 rebounds for GFW. Neil Eichten scored 17 points and Scott Jenniges added 16 points for Wabasso.

The Thunderbirds (2-2) host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Monday night. Wabasso (2-3) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary's (4-1) Monday night.

LCWM 60, Madelia 44

MADELIA - Michael Coates had a game-high 11 points for Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial as the Knights beat Madelia in Valley Conference boys basketball action Friday.

Balanced scoring was a strength for Madelia as Zach Baumgartner, Jack Bergeman and Derrick Van Hee all scored eight points for the Blackhawks.

Madelia (2-4, 1-2) will travel to Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Tuesday night.

Ellsworth 50, RRC 48

LAMBERTON - Drew Cheskie's tip-in with 1.1 seconds left sealed the game for Ellsworth as the Panthers won a nail-biter over Red Rock Central in Red Rock Conference boys basketball play on Friday.

Jeff Decock recorded a double-double on the night for the Falcons with 15 points and 10 rebounds. D'Shaun Herman had a game-high 21 points for Ellsworth.

Red Rock Central (1-3) will travel to Wabasso on Thursday night.

SESM 70, Sleepy Eye 60

SLEEPY EYE - Sean Mathiowetz scored 36 points to lead Sleepy Eye St. Mary's past Sleepy Eye Friday night in a Tomahawk Conference boys basketball game.

John Brandl added 11 points for the Knights.

Tyler Netzke led the Indians with 20 points, Brandon Polesky scored 14 points and John Mangen added 10 points.

St. Mary's (4-1) travels to play Wabasso (2-3) Monday night in a Tomahawk Conference match-up. Sleepy Eye (2-2) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran (0-5) Tuesday night.

Sibley East 77, Mayer Lutheran 55

ARLINGTON - Tyler Bates recorded a double-double for Sibley East, scoring 19 points to go along with his 11 rebounds, as the Wolverines beat Mayer Lutheran in Minnesota River Conference boys basketball action Friday.

Brody Rodning provided an outside scoring punch as he scored a game-high 24 points for Sibley East. Another main contributor inside for Sibley East was Max Grabow, who grabbed 17 rebounds to go along with his 12 points.

Sibley East (2-1, 1-0) will host Nicollet on Tuesday.
