The Journal

BROWN COUNTY - Rep. Paul Torkelson (R- Hanska) was named an assistant minority leader on Monday as part of the Republican leadership team for the Minnesota House of Representatives.

His selection completes the roster of minority leaders for the 2013 legislative session. Others are Steve Drazkowski, Tara Mack, Joe Schomacker, Peggy Scott and Kelby Woodard.

In this position, legislators are charged with gathering votes for major bills. They can also serve as acting minority leader when the floor leader is not present.

During the 2012 session, Torkelson served as vice chair of House Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Policy and Finance Committee. He won re-election in November to a third term.
