NEW ULM - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team was unable to hold an overtime lead in a 90-78 double overtime loss to Marian Tuesday night.

The Knights jumped out to 15-2 lead in the first five minutes of play. but the Sabres came back, slowly chipping away and cutting the MLC lead to 31-26 with a three-pointer right before the half.

Marian continued its run to start the second half, getting inside the paint on the way to building a 56-46 lead with just over eight minutes left in the game.

The Knights responded, however, as Ben Edmundson, Galen Holzhueter and Kaleb Buch keyed a rally that eventually tied the game 66-66.

MLC built a seven-point lead in the first overtime after three-pointers from Edmundson and Holzhueter, but the Sabres erased the deficit in just 12 seconds of game action, taking advantage of a pair of MLC turnovers on inbounds plays to send the game into a second overtime stanza at 76-76.

The second overtime would be all Marian, as the Sabres scored the first four points of the period, and then rattled off ten straight to end the game after a Justin Eternick layup cut the lead to two.

The Knights finished with five players in double figures, led by Holzhueter's 17 points. Buch and Luke Rothe each added 16 points, while Edmundson finished with a season-high 11 off the bench. Eternick scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
