NICOLLET COUNTY - An 81-year-old St. Peter author, photographer and editor recently published a book about the adventures of fowl hunters on Swan Lake, Nicollet County and other interesting places.
Three years ago, Pell Johnson wrote "Fowl Stories." His book sold more than 500 copies, which pleased him so much, he recently wrote and published another book, "Fowl Deeds."
"I've heard so many hunting stories, I decided to write about them to recapture them," Johnson said. "After my first book was published, a lot of guys contacted me about doing another so I did, following the same format at the first one."

Pell Johnson of St. Peter recently published “Fowl Deeds,” a collection of hunting stories on Swan Lake, Nicollet County and a few other places. The book is available at the Brown and Nicollet County Historical Societies and Shopko Drugs in St. Peter.
He described his latest book, a sequel to "Fowl Stories," as dealing with humor, history, and reality.
Johnson has been hunting on Swan Lake for 70 years. He bases his writing on the adventures of other hunters plus his own dealing with ducks, geese, turkeys and pheasants. His family has been hunting on Swan Lake since the late 1890s.
"I learned there are many interesting stories of hunters in Swan Lake and other places that are just too good to ignore," Johnson said. "I encourage New Ulm hunters who want to tell their story to contact me."
