PREP HOCKEY ROUNDUP: New Ulm girls, boys both lose

ST. CLOUD - The New Ulm girls' hockey team fell just short in a game against the St. Cloud Icebreakers on Friday.

Erika Ries opened the scoring for the Eagles with a power play goal in the first period (Brittany Denn and Morgan Schaefer assists).

Denn added an unassisted goal in the second period for New Ulm, with Lexie Weiss rounding out the team's scoring with a power play goal later in the second period (Kali Denn and Lexi Fischer assists).

Julia Schaefer had 28 saves in net for the Eagles on 32 opportunities. New Ulm finished with 25 shots on net.

The Eagles (8-5) will travel to play Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato on Thursday.


Verona 5, New Ulm 1

ROCHESTER - Colin Huffman scored the New Ulm boys' hockey team's lone goal in a loss against Verona in the Rochester Invitational on Friday.

Brach Kraus had 31 saves in net for the Eagles.

New Ulm will play in the consolation championship game at 5:45 p.m. today.
