NEW ULM - The New Ulm Farm City Hub Clubhas selected Steve and Kerry Hoffman as the 2013 recipients of the club's Service to Agriculture Award.
Club president Don Sanderson and several past recipients of the award made a surprise visit to the Hoffman farm Thursday, Dec. 27 to inform them of the award.
The Service to Agriculture Award recognizes a person or persons who promote agriculture while volunteering in the community. The Hoffmans will be honored at the club's annual banquet and meeting Monday, Jan. 28 at the New Ulm Country Club.
The Hoffmans farm south of New Ulm and are very active in promoting their products. They host tours for visitors from local, state, and international countries and host the Hub Club's Family Night on the Farm every other year. They have been involved in the AMPI Young Cooperatives Program and took part in the FARM program to encourage and promote proper animal care and quality milk thru AMPI. Steve was recently elected to the AMPI corporate board. The Hoffmans work closely with county extension educators to be leaders in the dairy industry. In addition, Kerry writes for the New Ulm Journal and Dairy Star. She is a past secretary of the Hub Club and is the current second vice president. Steve and Kerry both volunteer at New Ulm Area Catholic Schools and for Searles baseball. The Hoffmans have two sons, Joey and Russell, who help out with all aspects of the farm.
The Hub Club's annual meeting and banquet will begin with a social hour at 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. A short business meeting and the program will follow. The event is open to all. During the business meeting, the 2013 slate of officers will be presented for election. They include Joe Maidl of Lafayette, president; Beth Fluegge, second vice president; Ruth Klossner, secretary; Doug Schottle, treasurer; and Randy Schroeder, membership chair.
Since its founding in 1974, the New Ulm Farm City Hub Club has continued to follow its original purpose, that of promoting agriculture and agri-business in the New Ulm area through various activities, events, and promotions.
