Commissioners to consider tax abatement

For Frontier Labs Project

January 5, 2013
By Fritz Busch - Staff Writer , The Journal

NEW ULM - Brown County commissioners will consider a request for a public hearing on a proposed economic development tax abatement plan for the Frontier Labs Project on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

If the board favors the concept of the county participating in the tax abatement, a public hearing is required and may be set for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5. A resolution would be considered at that time, according to the Request for Board Action (RBA).

Commissioners will also consider:

The Trunk Highway 258 alignment approach to CSAH 17 in Comfrey. The TH 258 from the south country line to TH 14 is scheduled for a jurisdictional turn back to Brown County on April 1, 2013. The board passed a resolution accepting the TH 258 transfer agreement with the Minnesota Department of Transportation on Dec. 11.

The urban segment of TH 258 in Comfrey is proposed to be re-graded, curb, gutter and storm sewer replaced and bituminous surface installed. The approach alignment to CSAH 17 at the south county line has been proposed to be improved for safety reasons, according to the RBA.

The Brown County Highway Committee recommends a straight alignment that allows for two-bin future expansion at nearby Harvest Land and was considered the safest design for transportation purposes, creating a square, four-corner intersection.

Taking public testimony and consider adoption of proposed additions and revisions to the Brown County fee schedule.

Receiving information for a proposed Social Host Ordinance and setting a future date at which the ordinance would be considered for enactment, possibly at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Authorizing the release of forfeiture funds for purchase by the County Attorney of a computer to be used for evidence presentation in court trial proceedings.

The meeting begins at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday with election of a board chairman, vice chairman and adoption of Robert's Rules of Order with three provisions.
