SPRINGFIELD - A food shelf serving clients in Springfield, Sanborn, Comfrey, Clements and Cobden opened Thursday, Jan. 10 in the Schwanke Engines building on east Highway 14 in Springfield. Hours are 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursdays and 5-7 p.m. Mondays.
Food shelf stock includes cereal, juice, packaged and powdered milk, canned vegetables and fruit, soup, boxed meals, canned meat and fish, summer sausage, beans, pasta, noodles and rice, crackers, oil, condiments, coffee, baking items, soap and paper products, among other things.
Food will be bought from Second Harvest Heartland. Food collection drives will add items. The United Methodist Church is sponsoring the food shelf.
