GLENCOE - The New Ulm gymnastics team came agonizingly close to winning the eight-team Glencoe-Silver Lake Invitational on Saturday, ending up in second place with a score of 134.55.
Sauk Rapids-Rice placed first with a 134.65.
Michaela Otterstatter earned a second-place finish for the Eagles on the vault (9.0) and tied with teammate Emily Gulden for a third-place finish on the beam (8.65). Kim Berg was second on the bars (8.7) and Gulden added a fifth-place finish on the floor (8.85).
New Ulm placed first in the JV competition with a score of 118.05.
New Ulm's Bergan Forst placed first on both the vault (8.2) and bars (7.2) and teammate Molly Klimek was first on the beam (8.1). Berg placed second in the floor routine with an 8.2.
The Eagles will head to Martin County West Friday for a South Central Conference meet.
