Dairy princess to be crowned Saturday

NEW?ULM - The Brown County American Dairy Association will host the coronation of the 2013 Brown County Dairy Princess and recognition of the 2013 Dairy Ambassadors on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in New Ulm.

The candidates will be judged on their communication and presentation skills; personality; enthusiasm for dairy promotion, and general knowledge of the dairy industry through a personal interview, a radio mock interview and speech.

The candidates are Katelyn Johnson and Molly Lax, both from Sleepy Eye.

n Katelyn Johnson, 17, is the daughter of Lee and Judy Johnson of Sleepy Eye. She is a senior at Sleepy Eye Public High School. She is involved in FFA, band. She participates in 4-H as a State 4-H Ambassador.

n Molly Lax, 18, is the daughter of Rick and Monica Lax of Sleepy Eye. She is a senior at St. Mary's High School. She is currently serving as the president of the National Honor Society and participates in softball and dance line. After graduation she plans to attend the College of Saint Benedict or the University of South Dakota to major in English, with a minor in secondary education. She aspires to become an English or language arts teacher at a high school in the Sleepy Eye area.

n Brown County's Dairy Ambassadors for 2013 are Sabrina Portner, daughter of Tom and Mary Portner; Rebecca and Mary Rosenhammer, daughters of John and Patty Rosenhammer; Bethany Seifert, daughter of Steve and Barb Seifert; Maggie Sellner, daughter of Loran and Heidi Sellner; all of Sleepy Eye.

In addition to recognizing 2013 royalty, the Brown County ADA will honor its 2012 Dairy Princess, Laura Rosenhammer, who was a finalist for Princess Kay of the Milky Way in August at the Minnesota State Fair.

A luncheon begins at noon, followed by a joint meeting of the Nicollet County and Brown County producers at 1 p.m. Coronation of the new princesses is expected at 2 p.m.
