January 31, 2013
The Journal

BROWN COUNTY - Brown County Sheriff Rich Hoffmann reminded people of the Brown County ordinance about driving on lakes with aeration systems that cause thin ice areas which are unstable and unsafe to drive motor vehicles on.

Motor vehicles, including snowmobiles, are prohibited from driving in areas marked with aeration system in use and thin ice warning signs.

Brown County waters included in the ordinance are Clear Lake, Lake Hanska, Sleepy Eye Lake, and the Wellner/Hageman Reservoir. People who want to use these waters for winter recreation are encouraged to familiarize themselves with Brown County ordinances which can be viewed at www.co.brown.mn.us

Brown County Ordinance 1993-04, Section 7, Subd. 1 reads "No person shall operate or park an ice sailboat or motor vehicle including snowmobiles and motorized ice boats within the marked areas whenever there is ice formed and the aeration system is in operation or scheduled for operation," according to a sheriff's office news release.
