DULUTH - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team broke a 34-34 tie at halftime with a big second half to defeat St. Scholastica 72-53 Saturday in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference match-up.
The Knights took control quickly in the second half with a 17-4 run to take a 53-41 lead, then put the game away by building that lead as high as 22 before coasting to the 19-point win.
Hannah Hackbarth finished as the game's high scorer with 20 points. Hannah Rothe added 14 points, while Alex Anthon and Sara Willems chipped in 10 points apiece.
The Knights received a season-high 16 rebounds from first-year forward Leah Nass. Anthon also contributed on the glass, grabbing seven rebounds.
MLC (9-12 overall, 7-3 in UMAC play) moved from a third place tie with St. Scholastica in the UMAC standings into third place alone following the win.
The Knights at 5:30 p.m. Friday when they host North Central.
