NEW ULM - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team was unable to generate enough offense in a 51-45 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference loss to North Central Friday night.
MLC shot 28.3 percent overall and 17.6 percent (3-17) from beyond the three-point arc in the game. The Knights were able to stay in the game by holding NCU to 32.8 percent shooting for the game, but the Rams made enough shots in the second half to pull away.
The Knights led 24-22 at the break, but struggled with 14 first half turnovers to allow the Rams to hang around in the game.
MLC was led by Alex Anthon, who scored 15 points. Leah Nass finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
MLC (9-13, 7-4) hosts Northwestern at 3 p.m. today.
North Central Tops MLC
NEW ULM - The MLC men's basketball team was unable to slow down the explosive North Central offense in an 86-81 UMAC loss Friday night.
The Knights started fast, taking a 6-3 lead in the opening three minutes, but the Rams responded with a 14-2 run to take a nine-point lead. The Knights kept the lead in single digits for much of the half, but the Rams finished with a three-point play in the final seconds of the half to take a 44-34 lead into the break.
NCU was able to build on its halftime lead early in the second half, leading by as many as 17 points at 64-47 with 13:38 to play in the game.
Galen Holzhueter finished with a team-high 24 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds for the Knights, while point guard Kaleb Buch added 20 points and nine rebounds. Justin Eternick and Josh Danell joined them in double figures with 11 and ten points, respectively.
MLC (4-18, 3-8) hosts Northwestern at 5 p.m. today.
