NEW ULM - For the second year in a row, the Martin Luther College women's basketball team has a chance to qualify for the NCAA Division III national tournament.
The Knights host St. Scholastica at 7 p.m. tonight and the winner gets an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
The Knights claimed the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference postseason title last year and earned the school's first-ever women's basketball NCAA tournament berth. The Knights lost at St. Thomas in the first round a year ago.
This year, the Knights were seeded third prior to the UMAC tournament and defeat the No. 2 seed Northwestern Wednesday night. St. Scholastica, which was the No. 4 seed, upset the top-seeded Minnesota-Morris Cougars to earn the right to play in the championship game against the Knights.
MLC is led offensively by Hannah Hackbarth, who averages 12.2 points per game. Alex Anthon averages 10 ppg and Rebecca Engelbrecht averages seven rebounds per game.
The Saints and Knights split the season series, with each team winning on the other's home court.
