FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Martin Luther College baseball team won its season opener against John Jay by the score of 11-4 Friday.
The win was the Knights' first win on its annual Florida trip since the 2005 season.
Andrew Nemmers led a strong pitching performance for MLC, pitching the first four innings and striking out six while allowing just one run on the way to earning the win. Jake Ziel and Matt Olson came in relief of Nemmers, combining for 11 strikeouts in the final five innings. The three pitchers allowed just four hits on the day.
The Knights finished the game with 11 hits. Aaron Stokke went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Joe Janke and Ziel each went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, with Janke also adding two RBI, while Galen Holzhueter went 2-for-3.
MLC will return to action on Sunday when it faces Muhlenberg at 12 p.m., and Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 3:30 p.m.
