NEW ULM - Visitors from nearby states toured nearly 100 recreational vehicles (RVs), from tent campers to cottages and two-story units with spiral staircases, extensive cherry woodwork, gas fireplaces, and oak floors.

All are on display from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the New Ulm Civic Center.

"It's our biggest show in the 19 years we've done this," said Joe Lamecker of Joe's Camper Sales of New Ulm, sponsor of what is believed to be the largest event of its type in southern Minnesota.

The 19th Annual New Ulm RV Camping Show continues from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The free show includes 96 units inside and outside the New Ulm Civic Center.

"Outdoor kitchens (sinks, ovens and refrigerators that slide out the sides of RVs) are some of the newest features," Lamecker said. "If you're looking for campers, the show is well worth a visit. I talked to people from as far away as Sioux Falls, S.D. who came here just for this."

Other camping-related products at the show included LED lights, compact, portable generators able to jump dead batteries, Porta Potties, VHF/UHF television signal antennas, and information about Sands Country Cove Campground, LLC, on Kansas Lake, near Butterfield.

For Charlie Holm of New Ulm, coming to the show reminded him of some of his earlier camping experiences in Texas.

"I wish I was 20 years younger. This show is wonderful," Holm said. "After camping there for many years, we left our last RV parked in Texas a few years ago."

Don Anderson of Springfield said he's been coming to the show for years. "There's a lot to see here and the variety keeps getting bigger and bigger."

Clair Thorston of Springfield said he enjoyed getting new camping ideas and meeting old friends at the show.

The free show features door prizes, factory representatives on hand, special prices on camping accessories and camping units and more than 70 framed and matted prints for sale.
