PUC approves masonry repairs on buildings

March 27, 2013
The Journal

NEW ULM - The New Ulm Public Utilities Commission approved Tuesday a masonry project for the Public Utilities Administration and Power Plant buildings.

The brick exteriors of its Administration and Power Plant buildings will be repaired with a mix of spot brick replacement and extensive re-pointing.

Tuck pointing is necessary due to the age of the buildings, which can be damaged from the freezing and thawing of moisture in the brick. If tuck pointing is not done, eventually the structural integrity of the walls will be compromised.

The project is estimated to cost around $175,000 total, Funds will come from the Electric Production Division and the Administration Division. The project will start this spring and wrap up in November.
