GFW Board approves capital projects

GIBBON - The Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) School Board approved capital and deferred maintenance projects Monday.

Projects include $70,000 for new servers and network switches, upgraded controllers, and other technical items to increase capacity and replace outdated gear. Two quotes were received. Tech/Check of Sartell was the chosen vendor, according to Superintendent Jeff Bertrang.

Deming Construction of Fairfax provided a quote to follow engineering recommendations to replace cracked block from top to bottom of the Fairfax gym south wall. The wall will be reinforced and cracks will be repaired at an estimated cost of $13,500.

Bertrang reported the wall is structurally sound but did not have expansion joints when built. Heaving and roof weight caused the cracks, according to his report.

Johnson Floor Sanding will resurface the Fairfax gym floor and add an updated T-Bird logo for $19,650.

The high school football field scoreboard has electronic problems and will be replaced by Daktronics for $15,000. The scoreboard is too old to be repaired with new parts, according to the report.

The board approved a 2013 certified retirement package that will save the district $427,109 over five years if teachers who meet criteria retire. Savings would be used to fund other school programs. Staff has until midnight, April 12 to submit retirement resignations at the end of the 2012-13 contract.

The 2013 Spanish Club trip to Panama July 22-30 was approved.
